PROCEDURE TEXT PART 3



In this part 3, you will practice compiling related procedure texts technology usage manual and tips (tips). But first you have to study the linguistic elements in the text. Try you guys read and understand the following material descriptions:

1. Imperative
Imperative sentence is a sentence that is used to make recommend, request, or instruction. Imperative sentences generally end with an exclamation but can also be ends by a period. In the usual imperative sentence procedural texts used is what functions as an instruction (instruction) and command (command). There is also a negative imperative that serves to show that we not allowed to do anything. Take a look at some examples imperative sentence below.
  • Add a glass of coconut milk into a pan and then boil it. 
  • Do not spray water on the control panel of the washing machine. 
  • Remove the toner cartridge carefully. 
  • Serve it warmly in the rice bowl

2. Must and Mustn't
Must is used to express that we have to do something important
e.g. : You must press the on button to start the machine.
Mustn't is used to express that we are forbidden to do something.
e.g. You mustn't refill the ink before it runs out.

3. Sentence Connectors for Telling Actions in Order.
Connectors are used to join groups of words, both phrases and sentence. You can use these connectors to link paragraphs to be coherent. Sentence connectors are usually written at the beginning of a sentence. Try to read and study the example paragraph below carefully.

The underlined words above are sentence connectors that used to show the sequence of an instruction or how take action.

4. Adverbs
Adverb is a word that describes a verb, adjective or adverb other. An adverb usually consists of an adjective + ly such as slowly, suddenly, strongly. Easy is not it to understand the concept above? Good. You also have to study and understand the tips in compiling procedure texts.



Tips For Writing a Great Procedural Text
  • Above all else explain what has to be done.
  • Keep everything in order.
  • List all the items that will be required to complete the task.
  • Keep your instructions short, sharp and to the point.
  • Use the correct language and terms.
  • Find or create some labeled diagrams if possible.

  • Procedural texts are always written in present tense and from a third person perspective.

  • In compiling procedure text, there are 4 linguistic elements that must be considered note that: imperative sentence, must and mustn't, sentence connectors and adverbs.

  1. Prepare the iron, the clothes, a place mat or any flat surface board, some clothing hanger.
  2. Plug the iron cable into an electricity socket and wait until the iron get warmer.
  3. Place the clothes on the place mat.
  4. Apply the iron on the clothes surface evenly.
  5. Flip the clothes and apply the iron on the other side of the clothes evenly.
  6. Put the clothes on the clothing hanger
  7. Continue with another clothes.
